Tourist activities in Punta Del Este

Even with the many options you have in travelling in the city, the best way to enjoy Uruguay is by getting a car rental. It means you can access as many monuments as you want when the bus itinerary only lists a few to save time. And Uruguay is known to have some of the best attractions in the world.

  • Museo del Mar - this is a museum within the city that houses remain gathered from the Uruguay coastline. Inside are the skeleton remains of sharks and whales as well as other creatures of the sea. It’s a small road trip to this museum in your car rental, but you must polish on your Espaniola first for everything inside the museum is inscribed in Spanish.
  • Nuesa Senora de la Candelaria - when the Spanish is too much for you at the Del Mar Museum, you can opt for a nice evening spent at the Ports. So many commercial ships and private yachts dock at this port. The commercial ships can be rented out to make cruise trips to the sea and visit isolated terrains like the Lobos Island. Within the port you can also visit the local fish market and order for some delicious seafood at the restaurant later.
  • La Mano - this landmark figure is described as the symbol of Punta del Este and was designed by the artist from Chile, Mario Irrazabal. It only took him six days to complete the hand sculpture and 32 years later it still stands.
  • Observing the cityscape - when you drive to the La Bellona exit, there is an observation point located there that gives you a majestic view of the Maldonado Bay, The Marina and the Casapueblo hotel.

There are a dozen other attractions within Punta Del Este that are within your reach if you rented a car at the airport.
